Make the Most of Your Photo Session

At Cardamom & Clove, we believe the best light is natural light. It makes eyes twinkle, cheeks glow, and brings out the best in all. Yet too much harsh sun can accentuate lines and cast shadow. To avoid these artifacts and still faithfully capture your character in natural light, we strongly recommend scheduling your session within 90 minutes of sunrise or sunset.

Any attire is fine (be yourself!), but we especially love bright colors, big smiles, and the inclusion of any items (such as stuffed animals or heirlooms) that carry meaning to your family.

We allow clothing changes within your time allotment, but do not generally recommend it as it will mean less time for photography during your scheduled session. If there is poor weather (such as rain), Cardamom & Clove reserves the right to reschedule to a later date - this is at the sole discretion of the photographer. (No one looks good drenched!)

Payment is required to secure a reservation, and reservations are not refundable.

Photos are generally available within 1-2 weeks of your session.

What's Your Story?

Your session is your chance to tell your story! Perhaps it's a romance? A comedy? A coming of age tale? Whatever your message, we can help! Here are a few tips!

1) Be cohesive. Choose outfits for everyone that are complementary.
2) Pay attention to the tiny details. Button your shirt. Straighten your tie. Pin your blouse. Paint your nails. Sometimes these little details make all the difference.
3) Cheer for your kids. Young children are the best to photograph, but they can take some coaching for portraits. Bring along some of your kids favorite treats and toys for photo sessions. It can encourage full participation.
4) Arrive early. Plan to meet your photographer on location 15 minutes before your session begins. It can help you get comfortable and decide on the direction you'll go. If you're late, your photographer may not be available beyond the scheduled time.
